The Glen Iris Inn inside of Letchworth State Park overlooks middle falls and is such a stunning location for a wedding ceremony! Not to mention the fact that this past Saturday was the perfect weather for such an event. It was hot and humid (what else would you expect in August!) but most assuredly not unbearable. A beautifully sunny and mild day made for amazing pictures both inside the Inn as well as around the park.

Today I went down to Canadaigua Lake to do a senior session, and when I got there was shocked to see the waterfront overtaken with the annual waterfront art festival... therefore, taking pictures was not gonna work out so well!

On a hot July night I went to Rob and Armita's house to meet with them about their wedding ceremony pictures... so hot in fact that while I was knocking on their door, they couldn't hear me over their upstairs bedroom that was air conditioned... Ahh, the blessed toasty nights we get here in NY. They're so few I try to enjoy them and not complain ;)

Finally though, we got it together and sat down for a lovely chat about wedding pictures. Such a sweet and caring couple, I felt right at home as we sat on their modified barn/work shed's porch in lawn chairs with our drinks setting carefully on a hanging platform.

They really only needed me for the post ceremony pictures, they weren't interested in doing the whole ceremony because for them, it was just a formality. They were joining their two families, almost grown, and together they just all fit. It wasn't about Rob and Armita, it was about the whole new family... and that's what they wanted the pictures of :)

Raj and Erica {post bridal session}

Raj and Erica got married in fall of '10 in Philadelphia but were disappointed with the pictures from their wedding... they really really wanted beautiful bridal portraits, ones that captured their spirit and the love between them... all while in white :) Can you blame them?

Well, Erica's sister Meghan is a friend of mine who lives up here, and as I've photographed their little family before she recommended to Erica that while up visiting to get dressed up again and we would head out to recreate some bridal happiness.

We first headed to my favorite scenic episcopal church... ever since Andrea took pictures of me here I'd wanted a chance to take a bride to the same spot... and this was just the time.

I also took a few pictures of her dress... oddly enough, I realized that her dress was identical to the one I almost had for my wedding... gorgeous dress, though I'm glad I changed my mind. I think this one looked better on her than it did on me ;) if we're comparing... lol

I had 3 locations scouted out for this session, but one of them we got kicked out of. I have since found another way to get to the same spot... it would have been very fairy like... kinda woodsy, moss everywhere... silly people who don't like trespassing psshhhh!

So instead of the wooded wonderland we headed over to my favorite field in the whole wide world...

OK maybe I'm exaggerating a bit... but it's the best field around here that I've found :)

I am so so sooooo happy that I was able to do this post bridal session with Raj and Erica, it was my favorite favorite and again, in case you didn't catch it the first time favorite bridal session ever. And that is because there were no time constraints and no pressure. No reception to get to, no bridal party to incorporate... definitely very relaxed and real.

I'm looking forward to doing another session like this over the summer with a bride from last summer... hey, if the dress still fits, why not?

Who knows what age you can say is the cutest to photograph? Is it the 6 month olds who just learned to sit and smile so sweet, or is it the 4 year olds who are social enough to make friends with and wonder why you're telling them they'd better not smile or else!

Well this is one of those cases, he took not smiling very seriously ;)

and what 4 year old doesn't want to climb up the fence? Seriously? that's a no brainer :)

I met Kiana at her house one afternoon in the fall. First things were first, we had to find a good wall to take a formal yearbook picture... but after that was over with we got down to the fun part and headed outside. Living in the country the possibilities were close to endless... we took a lot in her yard right there, but then also drove to Hemlock Lake for a few more... we found trails and water, and just so much interest. I always have fun with seniors, but sometimes I wonder if they think I'm a big goof ;) Though it was only about 9 years ago I was in their same shoes... probably seems like an eternity to them though!

It was three summers ago that I photographed a quite large family reunion... a bunch of sweet folks from all around the country. It was so great meeting them and within two hours was able to photograph them as a whole group and all the individual families. Since then they've been loyal followers of my work and have come back for more! You might remember seeing some of them.

These pictures are actually the cousins of the family in the link ;) So you're not crazy, they are different kids :) Anyways, I met up with these cuties {and their mom and dad} at a park near my house where there happens to be a stream. It was a hit for sure. What beats throwing rocks in the water? I mean, seriously.

And their cousin from last year came along too for his 3 year pictures. A ham he is :)

After seeing all these I'm really getting in the mood for spring and summer to get here... and hopefully another chance to take pictures of these (probably notsolittle) guys again!

a well-kept secret

Well, at least that's what I'm calling it since it's been a year and a half in the works now.

Summer of 2009 I got connected with a pretty fantastic film producer. He wanted to do a trade with me, vow renewal photos in exchange for a promo video. I was stoked, especially since I'd seen Andrew's work before and was more than a little impressed. Well, we began work right away, but the year got away from me and before I knew it summer '10 was here and I still hadn't finished work on it!

So we shot the remaining parts of the video this past summer and it's finally making it here... I've had it for a few months in it's completed form, but I'm intimidated by youtube and the internet in general, generally speaking ;) Anyways, here goes! Laura and Danny - now a family of 3

These pictures were taken last September, yes, September. But I mentioned previously that I'll be doing some posting to catch up... so here we go :)

Danny and Laura's wedding was September 10, 2010, and I was asked to be a bridesmaid! I wasn't their official photographer, but a week before their wedding I was able to take some super cute engagement/new family pictures. Laura has a daughter who was 4 at the time and now they're a cute little family!

In looking back at my previous posts, I realize that I have posted hardly anything taken in this field you see below... Get ready to see more of it, maybe like another hundred and twenty thousand times... because it's a fave spot :)

The very best pictures are unposed and real. Danny and Laura are just that. Certainly they asked me what to do, but I was so taken with their natural chemistry I hesitated to give much direction... I didn't want to ruin the moment! That's often the case when I am shooting :)

Steve and I got the chance to visit this lovely couple just before Christmas. Since their wedding they were able to move into a really beautiful home, made even more beautiful by their unique decorating style and the love throughout the halls. Sometimes I want to stop myself from sounding so cheesy, but c'mon, for real people, love is just too special to skirt around :) I love love, and I love Danny and Laura :)

Jay and Lucy - down the aisle July 24, 2010

The day started out hot, humid and overcast. Clouds loomed above and I kept glancing outside anticipating the inevitable rain. Much like my own wedding day, the anxiety of rain on an outdoor wedding was frustrating, but they had prepared for this with huge tents covering their backyard ceremony site.

The girls prepared at the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa in the beautiful Victorian suite.

And yes, those are her Manolos. They showed up again at the Hot Mama shoot!

Apparently Lucy's mom was a model... and it rubbed off on her :)

As we waited for Lucy's father to pick her up at the hotel, the clouds continued to sweep across the sky... and the first drops arrived as she walked down the aisle. But they say rain on your wedding day is good luck ;) It was absolutely perfect.

For literally months before the wedding, Jay and Lucy handcrafted these oragami chandeliers. Each one was different and absolutely exquisite!

Because of the rain, taking bridal pictures was a challenge! We had to run out from under the tents in between showers... but the leftover rain in the air made the trees and greenery look so lush and full, to me, it was almost like a fairy tale *sigh* But hey, that's me... and I'm just like that :)

The oragami chandeliers and tiny white lights created such a beautiful backdrop! I love how in so many of the pictures you can see a little sparkle... and the way they danced... well, it's all just part of the fairytale :)

Lucy's mom made the cupcakes from scratch. They were hands down the *best* wedding cake I've ever had. And I love wedding cake let me tell you. These were simply amazing and very creatively displayed too!

Winter's in NY are white. Or brown... depending in the day, and your perspective :) I try to keep things bright by enjoying the whiteness of snow and cuddliness of the cold weather...

Another trademark of winter up here is the undeniable aversion to spending hours outside taking pictures ;) I love a good snow picture here and there, but I am not gonna lie and pretend I just love freezing my butt off every day. And as long as I'm being honest, not many people are banging down my door asking me to do that!

So in the meantime, I am going through the sessions from last year that I never got around to publishing. I get so much pleasure working with brides and grooms... from the moment I meet them, through all the contract-y stuff, on to engagement pictures and then the wedding day... Yes, the wedding day. The culmination of it all! It's so thrilling to me to share that day with my newly found friends!

Jay and Lucy were such an example of a bride and groom with whom I made quick friends. Just 12 days before "I do" on a hot balmy evening in July we ran down a path behind her parent's house to take some engagement shots.

It was short and sweet. The chemistry was undeniable. These two were brought together to last.

What's a float wrap?

How many times have I heard this question? So many that I decided it deserves its own post!

I had heard they were beautiful, but hadn't actually seen one until earlier this year. I did an engagement session 1 week before Jay and Lucy's wedding (which is getting posted this week for you all to see! :) and they called me up and asked me to please make 2 of their pictures big for display at the wedding. The perfect opportunity to get the first float wrap.

So I went with the 16x20 and displayed it on an easel. This is what it looked like on their gift table...

I was pleased, more than pleased... and so were they! It's a new take on a canvas wrap, a truly stunning piece of art. They add dimension by extending out from the wall and are unique in that they appear to be floating on the wall with the main focus on the image! They are also arrive ready to hang, there is no framing involved.

Here are some pictures of the ones Jay and Lucy ordered from their wedding.

Below is a view from the side so you can see how it sits out from the wall about 3/4 of and inch.

Hot Mama Photo Shoot November 2010

It was only a few short months ago that some friends and I came up with the idea to do pictures of women only focusing on making them look and feel hot. The wheels started turning and some phone calls were placed, reservations were made and advertising material was created.

The shoot was offered at a very reasonable introductory price of $95 at the Woodcliff Hotel and Spa and included professional hair and makeup styling as well as a 5x7 and 10 images to choose from.

Taylor and Rebecca down the aisle

A beautiful and balmy day here in Rochester, NY was the setting for this rooftop wedding at High Falls. The bride getting her make-up on as my second photographer Andrea and I arrived and a bustle about the hotel room as everyone wrapped up the finishing touches.

I love the pre-wedding excitement. My favorite part is that there's always a resolution... seeing each other as the bride walks down the aisle :)

The sun was bright June 5 and I feared we would have more shadows and squinting than we wanted, but the sky was ever so blue and all exposure turned out magically.

Here's to you Taylor and Rebecca as you continue your journey that began as you walked back down the aisle :)

Sam and Bethany tie the knot

It seems like so long ago that I was waiting for the day I would get to walk down the aisle... photographing Bethany and Sam's wedding was extra special for me as it was exactly one week from mine :)

And now, almost 6 months later here we are. The wedding day comes and goes and then real life begins. Bethany and Sam are such a fantastic couple to work with... Congratulations... a few months later ;)

Last year at Lima Crossroads festival I saw a familiar face in the crowd. We spotted each other and asked, "where do I know you from?"

We had met a few weeks ago at a young adults gathering but hardly even remembered the other's name :P

There was an instant connection, however, and since that day we've been great friends.

Tiffany is in the process of releasing her very first album... and when you make an album, you need photos for it ;)

Alicia and I go waaaaay back. Met in the hallways of the Elim dorm summer of 2003. We were instantly connected by a picture on her dresser of a girl I knew... and the rest is history.

We've been through a ton together... more than I have been with any of my friends. We are kindred spirits... the kind of friends who get eachother when nothing is spoken.

These pictures were taken while we were on vacation last summer 2009. The top one was the pier on Carolina Beach in Wilmington, NC the bottom was in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Truly, I couldn't ask for a better friend. I love you Alicia!!!

Kristi and Carlo tie the knot

Last weekend was my birthday... side note ;) this post is really all about how I got flown to Texas for my birthday... err, or not.

Really though, I went to Texas to shoot a wedding on South Padre Island. Holy smokes people, amazing I tell you :)

I would shoot on the beach every.single.day if I was able to... sadly I live in boring western NY where the "beach" is a very loose term...

But on SPI, that's all there is. An island about a half mile wide and 20 or so miles long... ahh yes. Beachbeachbeachbeachbeach.......

Enough on that. There's plenty of pictures now from Kristi and Carlo's wedding to go through and maybe by the end I'll have had my beach fix ;) Congrats you two!

mini-albums - pricing

Looking back on some recent (and not so recent posts :P) I realized that when I put the pictures of my new super cute mini albums up I never listed a price!

Well, I am about to clarify that. They will be sold at $75 each or 3 for $100.

I am hoping to sell these not only for weddings, as they are obviously advertised here {haha} but for newborns and kids, families and everything in between. I think they are pretty much the bees knees and while my husband thinks they are a novelty, this is one girl who likes novelties that are this cool... and you're parents probably will too when they open one on Christmas ;)

Levi Matthew and a note about shooting with kids

It's been almost 3 months since I visited Levi and took his 1 year pictures and today I'm going back to photograph newborn baby brother Seth!

I gotta be honest and put this out there. Most kids are not cooperative when it comes to picture taking. There are SO FEW kids I can think of that have actually cooperated with me and done what I "had in mind." Buuuuut you probably think (that is if you haven't done a kid shoot with me yet) that it's all butterflies and roses when photographing kids. Au contraire my friend, au contraire.

More realistically, I tell a kid to do something, they do something else. But it's cute, so I take pictures. There is a rare exception of children who will "pose" the way you want. What works for me is working with them. I try to make friends and if they like me, they'll flash me smiles and run around showing me their favorite things. And the whole time I keep my camera close.

It works well, as you can see from my work! The reason I went on that tangent was to let you know that Levi's session was no exception. We started off in the backyard and he was none too excited to see me there. He was busy doing far more important things and couldn't be bothered with me and my camera! But we gave him a hose and he played and got wet, and LOVED IT!

After the hosing incident there was a total meltdown, so Mama took him in and changed him up while he calmed down... and we then spent the rest of the session between his room (see below, how cute is the wall decal!?) mom and dad's room, and the downstairs.

And my absolute favorite favorite shot was playing peek-a-boo in the upstairs hallway.

I would say about 90% of my kid shoots go about like this {ha!} but one of the things that made this shoot so successful was Mom's laid back attitude about the whole thing. She worked with me and together we worked it out I would say :D

Aaliya, 10 months

I re-met Angelica back in November when Aaliya was only 4 months old. We quickly realized we had gone to school together about 7 years ago! Her and her husband are really good friends with my husband, and we too became fast friends.

Aaliya is now 13 months old! So many things change as the months go by! But this particular set was her 10 month pictures. You may remember 7 months from here.

Her 1 year pictures are were a joint session with her 3 year old sister Aariana and I can't wait to post them. One of my favorite shoots to date!

What amazes me most about babies is just how quickly they change. You can see a marked difference from month to month, even sometimes day to day!

Tommy was 7 months in these pictures, but today is almost 13 months! I cannot believe the change in just a few months... they go by so quickly!

Stephen and Meghan are his mommy and daddy and absolutely love him to pieces. In about 5 months from now they will turn from a family of 3 to a family of 4 and we're all very excited to meet her!

This little girl is the princess of her castle.

She turned 1 all the way back in the beginning of this year, and I am just now getting to share her pictures! I am very behind, but my crazy busy summer is over and I am getting on top of everything. Hopefully in the next couple weeks I will be all caught up.

I have a few ideas brewing too and I'm hoping to share those soon!

But for now, we have Hannah turning 1 :)

You'd really never know it but she cried through almost the entire shoot! Thank goodness for photoshop, all the little tears gone away :)

These are her 3 big brothers. Their mom Jen had a vision for the kids pictures in her living room so in addition to taking Hannah's 1 year pictures she had me over one morning to take headshots of the boys too. Next time I'm over there I'll take a picture of her wall and share that too ;)

The top left is the oldest Kaeden, next to the right is the third Noah and the bottom is their second Micah. What a bunch of heartbreakers!

Summer is wedding season, for sure.

But it's so much more than that.

During the summer, there is an abundance of this natural phenomenon we tend to take for granted.

Light.

Yes, light. A photographer's absolute best friend.

Without it, there really wouldn't be photography...

Photography is the art of capturing light :)

When I was a kid, I tried to capture fairies... I've moved on now to something a bit more attainable {grin} but I would very much love to find a real fairy and photograph it.

In the meantime, I have kids like this...

A perfect little poser for all of 3 years old... and cute as anything. He didn't even know me and was pulling on my pant leg for attention :)

Then these two were some real troopers. They spent the entire day in the car travelling from CT to Western NY for a family 4th of July get-together and as soon as they arrived, we did a shoot! I'll tell ya what, after that long in a car, the last thing I want is someone taking my picture ;)

I met Levi in his backyard for a super-hot, super-humid mid-morning shoot. It was more like a play date than a shoot really... something I want to strive for more often when doing little kid shoots :)

Besides taking pictures of these cuties, I've been really busy so far this summer. My apartment doesn't look so much like a war-zone anymore even though I'm rarely home... hmmm, maybe that's why... {haha}

new products!

I want to share with you a look at the newest product I'm now offering. They're mini accordion style albums and come in 3 different sizes: 3x3 square (shown here), wallet horizontal and wallet vertical.

This particular one I used pictures from my most recent wedding which you may recognize from the teaser post I have up from about a week ago :)

The cover of this book both front and back is metallic and the paper inside is pearl. I cannot explain just how beautiful it turned out, pictures do not do it justice, but walk through my picture tour and get a good idea of what they look like!

My Wedding Day!

I can hardly believe that it's been three weeks since my wedding day. It seems like just yesterday but at the same time like forever ago...

I am one very blessed lady, everything about my wedding was absolutely perfect. I was so happy that day I'm not sure anything could have made me upset :D I also am so so so glad that I chose a good photographer... definitely #1 on my list of important things for a wedding.

When I saw my flowers come in I was beside myself. They were so breathtakingly beautiful I wish that I could have kept them forever! Which is why I am glad I have good pictures of them!

The first time I saw this picture of Steve I shrieked right out loud and smiled the biggest smile :D

My absolute favorite group shot of the day!

Together, Mary (my florist) and Jen (my cake baker) worked on this until it was totally perfect. I cannot explain in words how happy I was with it! It's too bad we had to eat it but man was it gooooood!

We ended up making a kind of spontaneous exit when some of Steve's groomsmen decorated his Best Man's car for us. We climbed in and then I threw my bouquet out the moon roof

The bridal party pictures were taken around the Elim Bible Institute campus but when we were finished with those, we headed to Mendon Ponds for some more of just the two of us. We spent the night at the Woodcliff Hotel and then early Sunday morning had to get to the airport and were off to Miami for our cruise! Those pictures will be next... :)

Gorgeous baby girl! This is Aaliya and these are her 7 month pictures. Since then I've taken her 10 month pictures as well and very soon I'll be doing her 1 year pics with her big sister :)

I thought that the last one with the flower was going to be my favorite as I reviewed shots during the shoot, but the one above here turned out to be the one. So genuine and sweet, I love it!

Do not be fooled by the snow in these pictures... it is in fact not snowing in NY in June... these pictures are from January! I'm a little behind but getting back into full swing now with wedding season upon us :) my favorite!

This particular shoot was one that I just tagged along for... My two photographer friends Amanda Lee and Michal-Kathryn Morgan invited me for lunch and an afternoon shoot for Amanda's friend Jessyka. It was a lot of fun, though if I had been Jessyka I may have felt like the paparazzi had invaded my house ;) 3 photographers all over every angle, it was a lot of fun!
